And, without further ado, here’s our first featured NestPix!

Project: Deck and French doors
By: Jack M.
Location: Long Beach, NY
Contractor: A&E Builders, Long Beach, NY
About the project (From Jack): We’ve always wanted to expand our home, but since it’s made of poured concrete, adding space involves knocking through 10 inch concrete. Building a deck added lots of space without having to destroy much. Living by the ocean, we picked a Mahogany wood, which is rot and bug resistant, and beautiful. We also used a TimberTech composite for the railings because it’s simple to care for and comes pre-painted. The French doors add lots of light to our kitchen and allow for easy access. They also fix our issue with using a side door to get to the backyard, which limited our use of the backyard.  We thought about sliding doors, but they just didn’t feel like they were open enough. Our architect suggested the angled steps to the yard. It leads you into the yard because it’s so open. It’s also a great place to sit and watch the kids. We asked the contractor to build a set of doors for access under the deck so we can store anything from firewood to furniture and tools under there.
