2012 is the Year of the Remodel

The Leading Indicator of Remodeling Activity (LIRA) shows that homeowner spending on remodeling and home improvement projects is expected to rise in 2012. LIRA, released quarterly by the Remodeling Futures Program, part of the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University, estimates spending on home improvement projects to provide short-term forecasts of the remodeling industry.

Officials at the Joint Center attribute the rise in spending — 5.9 percent by the end of the year — to increased home sales, low interest rates, and the generally mild weather this winter.
